    Back to the Northwest

Portland & the Oregon Coast In April of 2024, Jess and I flew west to Portland, Oregon, to celebrate the wedding of two friends from our earlier life in the Pacific Northwest. It was one of only a few trips we’ve taken without the kids, and the change of pace felt good, it was a chance to get away together and slip back into the grey, moody rhythm of the Northwest. We spent the first few days in Portland ahead of the wedding, exploring the city by e-bike along its many bike paths. The rides carried us past some of…

A Season in the Dirt: spring baseball

Franklin Youth Baseball We’re approaching the terminus of my boys’ third and first grade years and I’m turning back the dial in my mind on how quickly we got here. They say time flies when you’re having fun—but I suspect there are additional catalysts at play. Maybe it was the rain, which felt almost scheduled to arrive each weekend. Or was it the cold that hung on just a little too long, as if winter hadn’t shaken us quite yet. It is New England after all and the weather is fickle. Maybe it was the pace of our days; stacked…

    Cancun 2023

Two Years Later, These Photos Still Smell Like Sunscreen Lately, Nolan’s been asking for “Cancun dogs”—his oddly perfect name for the grill-charred hot dogs served up poolside at my in-laws’ timeshare resort in Mexico. It’s one of those kid phrases that sticks, even long after the vacation glow fades. So when I stumbled across this forgotten folder of photos from that exact trip, the timing felt — serendipitous. Back in March of 2023, Jess, the boys, and I—along with my mother-in-law Marcia, escaped New England’s moody thaw for a week in Cancun. It was one of those trips where the…

All Aboard A Blast from the Past — The J.E. Henry Locomotive

This past few days, just after the Christmas holiday, my family and I spent a few days in the White Mountains of New Hampshire—a place that holds a special kind of magic for me. Loon Mountain has been part of my life since I was barely old enough to walk, and now I get to share it with my own boys. Returning there always feels like reconnecting with a piece of my childhood, a place where I can be as much a kid at heart as they are. We got a few wintery days but, as is often the case…

Franklin Youth Football || v CANTON

… and suddenly, it’s November. The leaves have almost all fallen from their branches and I think it’s officially stick season. I’m just about ready to embrace winter and everything that comes with it — snow, hot drinks, and winter sports. But before that, I’ve got a few more galleries to share from Callan’s 3rd grade football season. Here’s a look at some shots from the Panthers’ game against the Canton Bulldogs. The boys put up a solid effort as they wrapped up the final stretch of the season. Stay tuned for more as I work my way through these…

Franklin Youth Football || v King Philip

I’m a bit behind on posting Callan’s games. It’s been a busy season — one that just wrapped up this morning in Mansfield. I’ll get to the Mansfield and Canton galleries in the coming days, or maybe weeks, if I can find the time. In the meantime, here’s the gallery from the Franklin Panthers’ October 5th matchup against King Philip. KP was tough, and the Panthers ultimately fell to the Chiefs and their home-field advantage. But they didn’t go down without a fight, showing improvement from last year’s season opener — which, if I recall, was a blowout. These boys…
