Some people boast about the number of times they’ve seen big names like Dave Matthews Band or U2 live. My brother, for instance, has attended over 16 DMB concerts. While I may not travel hours for a concert, I do appreciate a great local show, especially when it involves friends.
This past Friday, just a 15-minute walk from my apartment, I headed to Nectars on Main Street in Burlington to see my friends Matt and John perform. They form two-thirds of The Old Silver Band (OSB), a group I’ve watched evolve from high school talent shows to more mature venues. I remember John’s early days in “Rug Scandal” and Matt composing “Mandoline” in the Hamel Hall men’s bathroom at Saint Mike’s. Their shows, often sponsored by brands like Magic Hat, are known for their lively atmosphere, ensuring the audience is always well-lubricated with a drink in hand.
Here are some shots from Friday’s performance…
Before OSB took the stage, I caught “MO2” at Club Metronome, right above Nectars. This drum & bass band from San Francisco had a compelling sound, and I regretted not being able to stay longer.
OSB’s performances are always a highlight for me, blending nostalgia with the excitement of their evolving music. It’s these local shows, filled with familiar faces and new tunes, that keep the music scene in Burlington vibrant and close to my heart.
