The past few days here in Eastern Massachusetts have felt unusually cool for August. It’s been a welcome change from the typical “hazy, hot, and humid” stretch we usually endure this time of year. It almost feels like fall—fitting, since September is just around the corner.
Wait—how is it almost September?
Where has the summer gone? We’ve only had one beach day on the Cape. Weren’t the kids just getting out of school? Now, it’s already starting again this week.
How is time flying by so quickly?
Attitude & effort — Preseason conditioning
I guess part of it is how busy I’ve been with Callan, my oldest of three. He’s wrapping up his first month of his second year playing tackle football. Somehow, I ended up as one of his coaches—a role I never imagined for myself, given my limited knowledge of the sport. I joke that I’m the “assistant assistant to the assistant coach,” but this new role has given me a closer look at everything.
The preseason training camp, with its late evenings and intense practices, really pushed the boys. Watching Callan—and the entire team—grow stronger and more confident has been incredible. It’s been a different kind of summer, full of challenges and triumphs, and one that seems to have quietly slipped into fall.
Here’s a bit of that view…
