Early evenings, crisp autumn air, and a bit of patience are all you need to capture something truly otherworldly.
Recently, I spent some time photographing Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan as it streaked across the night sky.
Well, it didn’t exactly “streak” across the night. It just kind of… hung out.
You can spot it this week in North America by looking west just after sunset. The darker the horizon, the better, but don’t wait too long—it typically sets around 8:30 pm. I captured this faint cosmic visitor from a few different spots: right outside my front door, the Big Apple Farm in Wrentham, and the Diamond Hill Reservoir in Cumberland, RI.
It was a treat to view this rare, albeit faint, glimpse of the cosmic visitor from the Oort Cloud. It’s a humbling reminder of the vastness out there, visible even from our little corner of Massachusetts.
