Last Thursday’s kickoff of “The Blackstone” Summer Ride series was in full swing with the inaugural Summer Solstice Sunset Ride. The event reached full capacity despite the 95º temperatures at roll out, with cyclists queuing up in Adam’s Street Lot as early as 5 pm. The excitement was palpable even as the heat made its presence known, but no amount of summer heat could dampen our spirits. Our shirts soaked in sweat were another thing.
As the clock approached the 5:30 pm start time, everyone was eager to hit the trails. Special thanks to Biagio C. and Mike C. who led the charge out of the gate, navigating the initial features as a cohesive unit. The Main Trail’s first large climb proved challenging, and it was here that the main group began to split into smaller, more manageable clusters, each tackling the terrain at their own pace.
Exploring the Vietnam Trail Network was an adventure in itself. For many riders, it was their first time experiencing this signature trail system. Despite the intense heat, the enthusiasm remained high as we delved into the various sub-regions of the network, including a bit of NEMBA parcel but mostly the conservation areas of Holliston, Hopkinton, and Milford. The newcomers only got a small taste of what Vietnam has to offer, with plenty more to explore on future rides.
